Welcome to Sousa Lab
Pharmaceutical Technology and Biopharmacy
Our research group pioneers the development of nanomedicines for brain delivery, with a strong focus on brain cancer. We engineer advanced polymeric and lipid-based nanomaterials to overcome key challenges such as the blood-brain barrier, enabling non-viral gene delivery and the controlled release of biologics (e.g., proteins, peptides, mAbs, RNA). Beyond formulation development, we also investigate the brain pharmacokinetics of nanomedicines to optimize therapeutic efficacy and precision in drug delivery.

Publications
Our research focuses on developing innovative nanomedicine strategies to improve treatment outcomes for glioblastoma. By leveraging membrane dynamics of tumor endothelial cells, I design targeted nanotherapeutics, including saRNA-loaded nanoparticles and nanovaccines, to enhance drug delivery and modulate the tumor microenvironment. Our work bridges nanotechnology, immunotherapy, and pharmacokinetics to advance precision medicine for brain cancer.
